Semester One – Year Ten Year Advisor's Report (4/4/2016)

Year 10 has had a busy start to the year with a myriad of learning experiences: excursions, welfare programs and opportunities available to students to prepare them for the future. They have embraced every opportunity given, and I am immensely proud to be working with such an appreciative group of young adults.

2016 got off to a great start with our annual Science excursion to Luna Park. This provided students the opportunity to observe first-hand the effect of many principles of physics.  Many of our students also took the opportunity to participate in a Geography excursion to Norah Head, and to test their physical fitness in the RAW Challenge for PASS. On each of these excursions,  students represented the school with pride and enthusiasm.

Year 10 also participated in a variety of Welfare programs this semester. One of these included the LOVE BITES program which explored safe relationships and other personal welfare issues. The level of maturity on display throughout showed how far the year group have developed. Thank you to Mrs Taylor and our guest speakers for running this most successful day.

Under the guidance of the Work Education Teachers and Mrs Fitzgerald Year 10 have been gaining many skills to help them in this rapidly changing world. Many of our students have been actively participating in programs run at the Central Coast Community College, including an aged care course and a beauty and personal styling course. A number of students have also obtained their White Card, and have had valuable work experience throughout the term at various organisations across the Central Coast and Lake Macquarie.

Congratulation to all Yr 10 students involved in the Year 7 Peer support program. Feedback received from teachers observing these lessons has been highly positive, many are impressed with the leadership Year 10 students have demonstrated. A big thank you to Mrs Donald for helping to coordinate this program.

Looking forward, it is the ideal time to start important conversations about the future. Soon Year 10 will have the opportunity to select courses to undertake for their senior studies. Information is the key here. Students are encouraged to talk to teachers and start thinking about their options. Whether it is a University course, or an apprenticeship, traineeship or the workforce, the choices you make now will be able to help you in the future.

Once again, a huge thank you to all of the parents, caregivers and teachers who continue to provide exceptional support to year 10!

Mrs S Martin (Yr 10 Advisor)
