Year Advisor Report: Semsester One 2017

Yr 11

Facing the Challenge:

The first semester of Year 11 is always one that seemingly flies by. It's a good time to reflect on how far you have come, learning new routines, new concepts and preparing yourself for the increased levels of course work. I really believe that all of you have faced the challenging changes with confidence. Our expectations will always be high and so should yours.

With HSC courses already underway and with your preparation for their mid-course exams around the corner, it is important to maintain our focus on the day-by-day; the small steps our students take each day are part of the wider, long term goals of gaining the HSC.

New Look:

Thanks to all the students involved in the senior jerseys; we all look very smart in our new look. These jerseys are now a part of our uniform, and because they were ordered so early we are able to get two winters out of them.

Subject Selection Evening:

Last term's Subject Selection Evening was a turning point for many students. Beginning to understand the expectations of each course and the opportunity to begin conversations with the course teacher was a significant step towards our HSC. With so many options it is important to keep communication between teachers, students and parents clear and open. We have the experience of making sure you select the right courses for your goals, whether that is University or other further education or joining the workforce. Please remember we are in a partnership with your education and employment future at the centre of every decision.

School Leaders:

Have you go what it takes to lead the student body? We want to hear from you!

A school leader needs to be a fine student with an exemplary school record in terms of participation and behaviour. If you believe that you fit this criteria, and are prepared to represent the school at assembly's and other events, then please submit a nomination to Mrs Crossland as soon as possible.

Celebrate our successes:

We all believe it is a vital part of our school community to celebrate our successes. We have had some fine results across a broad range of courses. Plus every individual student has had individual wins; whether that is in their sporting pursuits, a great assessment result or getting their head around a difficult concept, celebrate these successes and use those successes to do even better next time.

End of Year 12 Celebrations:

This is really something the whole group is looking forward to. Again, we will need to work together to make sure we have the best event for all students. We will be seeking direct student input so start thinking about what you want to do for your final farewell. These events will require fundraising as well, so if you have any ideas in relation to this please speak to me. I will gather a committee of yr 12 students for this purpose later in the year.
